Our poetry group are a friendly bunch;
Be it Homer or Armitage,
Gentle or more savage;
We meet from ten thirty to lunch.

We welcome all kinds of verse
Our tastes are exceedingly broad:
The unfamiliar or what strikes a chord;
Everything from Bard to worse.

We’ve Chaucer and Eliot and Tennyson too;
We’ve Dickinson, Duffy and Kay;
Herrick and Milton with many a lay;
And Wordsworth and Coleridge and all of that crew.

You’re welcome if verse is your thing,
At the Masonic Hall you will find us.
Whatever you choose, we won’t make a fuss,
Just read it, or, if you must, sing.

We are a friendly group where newcomers can expect a warm welcome. At each session we have a different theme or subject. Over the past few months we have read and discussed poems written in many different styles and composition some of the themes explored were - Beginnings, Friendship, Humour, Seasons, Endings and even Crime. Reminding us of the values and morals of all mankind past and present, and also events from our own experience. Poets whose work we have considered were as varied as John Keats and Pam Eyres.

If you have ever liked poetry at all why not come along and visit us — listen and perhaps tell us what your poetic choice is. You will not be expected to write a poem yourself. If, however, you are talented in this way we would be delighted to hear them.
