Directions: Suggested route: M6 to J31. T.R. onto A59 towards Clitheroe. After about 7 miles T.L. at traffic lights towards Ribchester. Soon after crossing the River Ribble T.R. into Gallows Lane. After about 2 miles at T junction T.R. onto B6243 to Hurst Green. In Hurst Green T.L. opposite the Shireburn Arms Hotel. The Memorial Hall C.P. is near the top of the road on the right. Walk: This is an interesting walk around Irlam with opportunities to see the Industrial Heritage rather than beautiful countryside, and will include an extended coffee break at the interesting Irlam Station with plenty of outside seating, toilets and drinks and snacks on sale. Walk: This is a lovely walk of about 5.5 miles along the River Weaver on roads, paths and fields. There are 3 small stiles and 1 long hill otherwise flat. It shouldn’t be muddy. From Warrington you can either take the M62 at the B&Q entrance & off at Jn11 then through Risley & Culcheth, or you can get on to the A580 East Lancs Road and turn right at the Greyhound roundabout. |
| B walk on 27/04/2022 Frodsham Sandstone Trail Meet: At the Ring of Bells, 2 Bellemonte Rd, Frodsham WA6 6BS. Park at the pub and the toilets will be available before the walk. Food can be ordered on the day. Start : 10.30 start Walk : Walk approximately 6 miles in length. Decent paths with a few muddy sections. One tiny uphill section and a couple of steeper downhill paths. There are no stiles, but you need to negotiate 5 steps carved into a sandstone outcrop. There are outstanding views to be enjoyed over the estuary and Cheshire countryside. Directions : From the A56 in Frodsham turn left at the lights opposite the Bears Paw onto the B5152 signposted Household Waste site and Parish Church. Just after the large junction on the left hand side and a school crossing sign look out for the right hand turn signposted Parish Church/Frodsham CofE Primary School. Turn into this road and you will see the pub a little further up on your left opposite the church. Park in the pub car park. Take A555 from the airport to its end at High Lane, turning right A6 towards Buxton. After 1.5 miles turn left into Carr Brow, at point where the main road bends to the right. There are chevrons at this junction and you turn into a 20 mph zone. (If you reach the entrance to Lyme Park you have gone too far). Carr Brow has a number of traffic calming chicanes. Near the top of the hill turn left into Wybersley Rd, follow this for approx 1 mile. Car park is on the right shortly after passing Kitling Ridge House (on the left) and a left hand bend. | B Walk on 28/09/2022 Alderley Edge Meet: Drum & Monkey, Moss Rose, Alderley Edge SK9 7LD. Be careful when trying to find it, try not to drive past the opening for Moss Rose. Note: Due to the walks duration and difficulty we would like to start the walk at 10 am. There are lots of parking spaces. Walk: Can l first of all say that this is a beautiful but difficult walk of nearly 6 miles with 100 steps at the start. So it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. However it is a lovely walk thru woodland with magnificent views of Manchester and Derbyshire with several points of interest one being the Magicians well, another is a derelict mine shaft with small gauge railway line leading to it. It was a difficult route to negotiate and took us 3 attempts to crack it. But perseverance paid off and our reward will be if you join us. Food: The Drum and Monkey is a nice pub with a good menu. This is a fairly strenuous walk with quite a few steps to climb. There are two fairly gentle climbs and hopefully good views from the Cage. Directions: From the roundabout in the centre of Poynton take the road that goes past Mates DIY stores. Continue up the road past Waitrose supermarket and through a pedestrian crossing. Just beyond the pedestrian crossing the road forks, take the Left-hand fork sign-posted “Anson Engine Museum”. Follow the road and take the first right turn, sign-posted “Nelson Pit” and “Anson Engine Museum”. Follow the road until you reach a crossroad. The Boar’s Head is on the right at the crossroads. Walk: The walk which is 5.7 miles takes us along the nearby canal south to Agden Bridge, where we leave it and walk 200 yds to the A56. That takes us past the Old Number 3 and on to the Swan with Two Nicks. From there across a bridge over a river and on into Dunham park. A right fork thru the park, around the perimeter over the steps thru the village and back to the pub for lunch. We walk its length before turning up to Hindley Hall golf course, and back through Kirkless Wood. There may be patches of mud, but a large part of the walk is on hard track and largely flat. | A Walk on 19/06/2024 Teggs Nose, White Nancy and Rainow Walk: 8.4 miles, total ascent 375 metres, quite a lot of stiles, none of them really difficult, mostly field and path walking with a little bit of quiet lane walking, and two major road crossings. No really muddy sections, and it was reccied after quite a lot of rain and hail. Quite a demanding walk with three main ascents. Some lovely views across Cheshire and onto the moors. Part of the walk coincides with our recent walk led by Elaine from Bollington in April, but is quite a contrast overall. A varied walk through parkland, along lakes, ponds and rivers, through semi ancient woodland and visiting the tallest aqueduct in England. Approx 7 miles with 1600 feet of ascent/descent. 5 stiles, 1 with a very big step down. Mainly good paths. Steps up to the aqueduct. Directions: Postcode SK6 7DA takes you to Marple Station, Station Rd, Marple. Drive pass the Station on on your left, almost immediately you will see a car park on your right, and immediately after this turn down the small road on your left - Brook Rd.
